Adja Yunkers (1900-1983) Rediscovered

January 23 – March 9, 2018

The Gallery at 200 Lex and Lost City Arts present Adja Yunkers (1900-1983): Rediscovered. This exhibition features the recently rediscovered works of celebrated artist Adja Yunkers. Yunkers’ colleagues included such renowned artists as Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, and Theodoros Stamos. This exhibition highlights a collection of the brave, intense, and experimental work he produced.

Adja Yunkers (1900-1983) was born in Riga, Latvia, but lived in many of the worlds art capitals, befriending the top echelon of artists wherever he lived. His longest stays were in Paris and NY, where he was close with the Abstract Expressionists. Yunkers believed in experimentation with new art forms and is best known for his printmaking and mixed media work. He felt that his contemporaries played it too safe, especially Rothko. Yunkers’ work is represented in many important museum collections including but not limited to: The Brooklyn Museum, The Corcoran Gallery, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Museum of Modern Art and the Rijksmuseum.
