Though hard to comprehend, this slab preserves the footprints of creatures that walked our planet over 150 million years ago. These dinosaurs, probably theropods, left their tracks in soft mud. After this mud hardened in the sun, it was filled with ash or sediment of a different consistency. In modern times these distinct layers, now fossilised, can be separated, enabling us to glimpse the briefest of moments in our planet’s life. Provenance: Bill Freeman Estate Collection, Arizona. Frank Gehry Side Chair in Cardboard for Vitra Edition...
Frank Gehry...

Gehry's experimentation with cardboard furniture grew from his extensive use of it in architectural models. To show the strength of the laminated cardboard material, he famously photographed a Volkswagen Beetle supported on all four wheels with cardboard side chairs. He used a particular type of multi-layer corrugated cardboard, and stipulated its use in the production versions by Vitra. Over time cardboard technology has changed so current production uses a different cardboard, considered even stronger yet slightly lighter in color. When new, the Gehry cardboard chairs exhibit a crisp, scratchy surface, due to the stiff paper edges. Over time, and with prolonged use, the paper wears to a soft sueded patina, which is both beautiful and comfortable. This version is from Vitra's earliest production, a long-time show sample and has been included in many exhibitions of modern design, and is velvety soft to the touch....

Beautiful table top sculpture by renowned Israeli sculptor Menashe Kadishman. Super quality, and visually stunning. it is signed and numbered and dedicated Janet love george Menashe Kadishman was born in Tel-Aviv in 1932. He is a Graduate of St. Martin's School of Art, University of London. From 1947 to 1950, Kadishman studied with the Israeli sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London, where he remained until 1972. He had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style and so designed as to appear to defy gravity. This was achieved either through careful balance and construction, as in Suspense (1966), or by using glass and metal so that the metal appeared unsupported, as in Segments (1968). In 1995, he began painting portraits of sheep. These instantly-recognizable sheep portraits soon became his artistic trademark. In 1990, Kadishman was awarded the Dizengoff Prize for Sculpture and in 1995 he was awarded the Israel Prize, for sculpture. Art Edition Book: 13.0 x 17.3 in. Silkscreen Print: Paper size: 18.1 x 17.1 in. Image size: 7.8 x 6 in. This Art Edition, limited to 100 numbered and signed copies, covers all work phases in large-scale reproductions accompanied by extensive texts as well as production Polaroids and installation photos by Wool himself. (Frame not included) "Exploring Wool's meanings and messages in an exhaustive monograph" This edition includes an artwork specially produced by Christopher Wool for this publication, also signed and numbered by him. The work is a silkscreen print on fine art paper, for which the artist used digitally collaged photographs of his paintings, appropriating his own work so as to arrive at a new, purely abstract image that has the allure of a classical art print (paper size 55.9 x 43.2 cm, image size 19.8 x 15.2 cm). In-your-face, achingly simple, deceptively frank, the work of Christopher Wool is so very New York. Though he owes a debt to abstract expressionism and pop art, he completely transcends - even demolishes - these genres. Whether it's a text-based painting or an abstract spray-painted piece, his work is immediately engaging. Wool questions painting, like many other artists in his generation, but he doesn't provide any easy answers. "The harder you look the harder you look," as he titled one of his word paintings, is an excellent example of how he states the obvious whilst provoking us to think deeper about what seems obvious. Christopher Wool became known in the mid-1980s through allover paintings produced with rubber rollers commonly used to simulate decorative wallpaper patterns on walls. By 1988 he had hit stride with his dry, dead-pan word paintings ("Trbl," "Riot," "Sell the House, Sell the Car, Sell the Kids"), while continuing to explore the possibilities of pattern painting. Since the 1990s, he has been developing the painterly qualities of his work, using a mostly black-and-white palette, starting from abstract lines drawn with a spraygun or layered stock images, overpainting silkscreens on linen, wiping out images, with a widening variety of media, a process that can involve photography, silkscreen, and, in the new millennium, also the computer. Exploring Wool's work in close to 500 pages, this monograph is exhaustive in its scope and depth. All work phases are covered in large-scale reproductions and accompanied by production Polaroids and installation photos by Wool himself. Editor Hans Werner Holzwarth has previously collaborated on several catalogs and artist’s books with Wool. Essays and analyses by Glenn O'Brien, Jim Lewis, Ann Goldstein, Anne Pontégnie, Richard Hell, and Eric Banks make this book a great read as well as a definitive study of the story so far. His painting spells TRBL. Exploring Wool's meanings and messages in an exhaustive monograph. Covering all work phases in large-scale reproductions and accompanied by extensive texts as well as production Polaroids and installation photos by Wool himself. Limited to 1,000 copies, each numbered and signed by the artist. In-your-face, achingly simple, deceptively frank, the work of Christopher Wool is so very New York. Though he owes a debt to abstract expressionism and pop art, he completely transcends these genres. Whether it’s a text-based painting or an abstract spray-painted piece, his work is immediately engaging. Wool questions painting, like many other artists in his generation, but he doesn’t provide any easy answers. “The harder you look the harder you look,” he puts it in one of his word paintings, and that is an excellent example of how he states the obvious whilst provoking us to think deeper about what seems obvious. Christopher Wool became known in the mid-1980s through allover paintings produced with rubber rollers commonly used to simulate decorative wallpaper patterns on walls. By 1988 he had hit stride with his dry, dead-pan word paintings (“Trbl,” “Riot,” “Sell the House, Sell the Car, Sell the Kids”), while continuing to explore the possibilities of pattern painting. Since the 1990s, he has been developing the painterly qualities of his work, using a mostly black-and-white palette, starting from abstract lines drawn with a spray gun or layered stock images, overpainting silkscreens on linen, wiping out images, with a widening variety of media, a process that can involve photography, silkscreen, and, in the new millennium, also the computer. Exploring Wool’s work in close to 500 pages, this monograph is staggering in scope and depth. All work phases are covered in large-scale reproductions and accompanied by production Polaroids and installation photos by Wool himself. Editor Hans Werner Holzwarth has previously collaborated on several catalogs and artist’s books with Wool. Essays and analyses by Glenn O’Brien, Jim Lewis, Ann Goldstein, Anne Pontégnie, Richard Hell, and Eric Banks make this book a great read as well as a definitive study of the artist’s oeuvre so far.
