A purveyor of what he terms “modest luxury,” Neal Beckstedt skillfully marries modernist simplicity with warmth, texture, and livability. After a decade-long tenure in the offices of S. Russell Groves, Beckstedt opened his eponymous New York firm in 2010, offering architectural, interior and product design services. Since then, he has completed a series of high-profile commissions, including two residences for fashion designer Derek Lam. Beckstedt is an admirer of Bauhaus and Scandinavian design and counts Alvar Aalto, Mies van der Rohe and Eileen Gray among his favorite creators. This week, we asked the designer to apply his cleanly articulated vision to the offerings of 1stdibs. More
