This outstanding vintage mid-century art carpet immortalizes the style and energy of Joan Miro and the abstract expressionists who helped develop modern art. This dramatic artistic statement piece has an elegant modern visage with a stark eggshell white field and neutral decorations that are not only modern but very versatile. Broad flowing brush strokes with calligraphic accents form inky black linear figures that have strong movement and create a series of abstract glyphs that have their own expressive language. These classically modern motifs have sensuous curves and ambiguous features that are paired with colorful circles and concentric roundels. This provocative art carpet is the epitome of modernity with its playful designs and grounded backdrop of sumptuous ivory pile....

Styled in an exuberant mid-century manner, this brilliant vintage Moroccan rug features a fabulous combination of rich colors, strong lines and sumptuous textures that create a dramatic abstract pattern. The bold assemblage of mottled color blocks and fragmented figures has a fluid, mutable style that glows with a fiery luminosity. Saturated tangerine color blocks, cool mineralic blue accents and deep auburn browns are strongly offset by the subtly colored neutral background. Sumptuous layers of minky ivory pile and dramatic roan speckles emphasize the decorative patterns and textural variations that give this artful mid-century Moroccan rug an exuberant, experimental style. The bold layered composition has a profound modernity that is youthful, exuberant and strong enough to function as a delightful statement piece...

Moroccan rugs, crafted by women in the interior plains and mountains on fixed-heddle looms can vary greatly depending on the tribes that weave them. Nonetheless, they all use severely geometric Moroccan decoration, sometimes in muted tones, sometimes almost monochrome, and sometimes richly colorful tones and asymmetrical compositions without borders. The raw material of the Moroccan rugs is black or white sheep's wool, used as is or dyed with plants or minerals found in the areas where the carpets are woven. In the upper regions, ochers are often used while in the Plains of Marrakesh, madder provides brilliant reds. Moroccan rugs provide designers with timeless, unique, and functional works of art for the modern-day home. Each rug is a primitive abstraction that is completely original to the weaver of the rug. Recognizing the beauty of these rugs in the modern environment were such notable designers and architects as Charles and Ray Eames, Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright....

Extraordinary eery and breathtakingly beautiful. This headpiece dates from the late 19th Century. Long before Alexander McQueen mined the darkness of the 19th century aesthetic, Victorians partied hard at lavish costume themed parties with extravagant creations such as this. Here a taxidermied hawk has been applied to soft band and can be worn as a bird crown/tiara for a modern goth bride. A head band would have to be attached for the head piece to be worn as it was probably stitched or pinned into elaborate hair. Excellent condition....

'The Disco Bar by Patrick Cox' was originally auctioned at the Première of Grey Goose Character & Cocktails in October of 2008 to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. “My inspiration was Justin Timberlake’s videos, this bar is inspired by disco mania with programmable lights and an in-built sound system.” stated Patrick Cox about his design. Partial proceeds of the sale of bar through Highland Park Antique and Contemporary Furnishings will again be donated to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The Disco Bar has a timber frame construction with a heat curved mirror-effect high-pressure laminate. It has a fully programmable, tricolor Pulsar LED lighting system, operating on show CAD software - allowing an infinite number of possible colors, patterns and intensities. There are 12 control units each operating 12 LEDs, 144 custom glass spheres house the LEDs with 560 meters (1,840 ft) of cable, glass shelving and glass sides to protect the light bulbs. The opaque glass spheres measure 100 mm (3.93") in diameter, there is 110 mm (4.33") spacing horizontally and vertically on back bar, 110 mm (4.33") spacing horizontally on the bar, 110 mm (4.33") spacing vertically on the bar. The Disco bar is currently located in the UK and will ship directly from London. The Disco Bar by Patrick Cox was also recently featured on 'Four Rooms' -- a new UK series where four of Britain's top dealers in art, antiques and collectibles wait in four separate rooms in which each dealer offers their own cash for items brought in by members of the public. (Provenance : Property of Howard Roberts) (Literature: The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) was established in the United States in 1992 by Sir Elton John. EJAF's U.S. office is located in New York City. In 1993, Sir Elton also established the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF-UK) in the United Kingdom, headquartered in London. These two organizations function as separate entities with their own distinct grant-making portfolios, but both pursue similar missions - to support innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and direct care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Collectively, the two organizations have raised over $220 million since inception in support of projects in 55 countries around the world, including significant funding dedicated to programs in their respective home countries. Corner' Centre Table Metal Structure by Stephane Ducatteau, France, 2008. Signed. All Ducatteau pieces are available exclusively from Decoratum and are To Order only. Please allow 6 - 8 weeks for delivery. Exchange rate fluctuations may apply. Stéphane DUCATTEAU Ducatteau is an artist and creator of contemporary furniture working primarily with sheet metal. Although his furniture is about the aesthetic, he never forgets the functional aspects of his pieces. His approach is sculptural, using a pleasurable mix of ergonomics and curves to generate an emotional, almost sensual response in the viewer. The metals Ducatteau uses, take on an almost ebony-like effect thanks to the well-worked patinas that he produces, often treating the metal with acids or minerals; each piece is produced to the same rigorous standards that you would expect from someone with the skills of a wrought iron metal worker combined with the impossibly high standards of an artist. Ducatteau’s background is not what you would expect from an artist, having initially studied engineering. However, over the course of several years he attended evening classes in Paris studying fine arts (drawing, painting, modelling, glasswork, etc) before obtaining a degree in Art Metalwork. After working as an engineer in an architect’s office, he made the decision to devote a full year to further training in the art of metalwork as he no longer wished to merely be a disassociated part of the design process; rather he wanted to be the process, involving himself in the entire project from concept to design to final realisation of the object. His work has developed over time, moving from a more decorative style to simpler creations where he has distilled the very basic essence of design into deceptively pure, functional works of art. A recurring device or theme of his work method is the accumulation or repetition of relatively basic elements whose very repetition creates a rhythm which provides direction for his creativity processes. Ducatteau worked for several years in Roubaix in northern France out of a collective workshop before settling in Normandy in 2003. He has a number of exhibitions and fairs under his belt as can be seen below.
