Lady in Red portrayed in this painting is a young girl, which is quite unconventional. Typically, we associate the image of a lady with a mature woman who exudes confidence and self-respect. It is when a woman knows how to embody these qualities in her behaviour that we say she behaves like a lady or possesses ladylike attributes. However, the protagonist of my artwork is still in the early stages of her life, with countless experiences awaiting her.
I have chosen to depict her at a specific moment, where she is completely immersed in the vibrant hue of red.
She lies in a graceful position, background in red, seemingly at rest, or perhaps surrendering herself to the captivating allure of the red that envelops her. Red, a color symbolising warmth, intense emotions, and love, dominates the scene. I invite you to allow this color to embrace you as well, to let it transport you from the mundane greyness of everyday life into the enchanting realm of love.

Jolanta Johnsson
Jolanta Johnsson is a Polish painter, who was born in 1955. She studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the years 1984–89, in the graphic studios of professor Halina Chrostowska and professor Rafal Strent and the painting studio of professor Jerzy Tchorzewski. She gained a Ph.D. in visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 2012. Currently, she runs a graphic arts and design workshop at the European Faculty of Arts at the Vistula Academy of Finance and Business. Her works have been exhibited at numerous exhibitions, including in the United States, Sweden, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Greece.

The painting size is 35 1/2 x 19 5/8 inches. The framed size is 43 x 27 x 2 1/4 inches. "Parisian Model" was painted in 1908, when Weber participated in a life class in Matisse's studio in Paris and painted several nudes. Weber was influenced toward a more Cubist styler after seeing Cezanne's work in the 1906-07 Salon in Paris, and he consorted within avant-garde circles in Paris as early as 1905. After returning to the US in 1909, Weber was credited with showing American audiences Cubism based on his firsthand knowledge of the key players and the style. Several drawings of Weber's from this time are in museum collections at The Met, the Smithsonian, and MoMA and show a similar style and stocatto gesture.
