This print features Johns's exuberant hatching in orange, white, bright green, and purple atop collaged newsprint. Printing on translucent parchment makes the image particularly vibrant. Paper 10 x 10 in. / 25.4 x 25.4 cm Screenprint on Patapar printing parchment. This screenprint is from an unsigned edition of 3000 and was made for the cover of the 1977 Jasper Johns/Screenprints catalogue. It was printed from the same nine screens drawn by the artist and used also in a signed edition of 130 printed in red, yellow and blue (rather than purple, orange and green) on a larger sheet of paper. Both the signed edition of 130 and the unsigned edition of 3000 are included in the artist’s print catalogue raisonné. He undertakes study trips by bicycle to the Netherlands and Belgium. 1939–1945: Service obligation as draftsman in an arms factory, the Akkumulatoren–Werke of Hagen. Since 1945: Immediately after end of war, new start as independent artist. 1947: First solo exhibit in the Studio für neue Kunst.
