About the Item
Original vintage travel advertising poster - Fly by Imperial Airways India in three days Australia in eight days - featuring the stylised bold text over red map shapes of the UK and Ireland at the top with the destination text diagonally on lines leading to the Speedbird logo pointing to map shapes of India and Australia against a blue background, the rest of the text in the red, white and blue colours below. Artwork by the English graphic artist Theyre Lee-Elliott (David Lee Theyre Elliott; 1903-1988) who designed the iconic Speedbird logo in 1932. Founded in 1924 the British airline Imperial Airways merged into the British Overseas Airways Corporation BOAC in 1939, later merging with the British European Airways BEA to form British Airways BA in 1974. Good condition, restored tears, restored paper losses, minor staining, small extra paper on top left corner, backed on linen.
