Pierre Fix-Masseau
1951 Original poster by Fix-Masseau - Tourism and hotel industry show

1951

About the Item

Beautiful poster made in 1951 by Pierre Fix-Masseau 🇫🇷 (1904-1995), a renowned French poster and graphic designer, to promote the tourism and hotel industry show. The poster artist Pierre Fix-Masseau was born in 1905 in Paris, rue de Bruxelles, at the foot of the Butte Montmartre. He was the only son of the sculptor Pierre-Félix Masseau, known as Fix-Masseau (1869-1937). After studying at the Lycée Condorcet, he enrolled at the Ecole Boulle in 1921, then at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, from which he graduated in 1923. After a very short stay with the print dealer Sagot, he created his first poster model for the Folies-Bergères, which was refused because it was too daring. In 1925, he did his military service in Morocco as a draughtsman in the army's geographic service. On his return to France in 1927, he designed luxury labels and packaging for the perfume industry for the Nortier printing house. In 1928, he joined Cassandre, with whom he worked for six months. This experience was decisive for him: he learned from this master of posters, author of the famous Normandie, the rigor, the graphic precision and the art of composition. He then worked for Edita until 1939. From 1940, he became independent and remained so until his death in 1994. Gastronomy - Hotels Chavane et Cie - Paris
