Marnix d'Haveloose Furniture

Marnix D'Haveloose was a Belgian sculptor and painter. His first encounter with the sculptural technique was in the studio of the Bruges artist Michel D'Hondt. After that, D'Haveloose enrolled at the Brussels Art Academy, where he graduated in 1910. He won the Godecharle Prize for sculpture. After a stay in England during the First World War, he settled permanently in Brussels. He was a professor (1935–55) and director (1951–55) at the Academy. D'Haveloose is known, among other things, for the enchanting movement of his dancers (some inspired by Isadora Duncan ). He also made busts, war memorials and funerary sculptures. In the 1930s, he started painting. D'Haveloose was married to Marguerite, daughter of the Antwerp watercolorist Henri Cassiers and the Bruges journalist Caroline Popp. An avenue is named after him in his native village.
