An elegant ceramic lamp made by Italian Vivai Del SUD. Chrome-plated ceramic with beige-coloured palm tree decor. That of Piero, Giorgio and Gianfranco Di Pierri, now a symbol in the world of designers and architecture, is one of the most significant examples of the synthesis of creativity and managerial skills, the result of a deep culture artistic and of a strong aesthetic sense combined with the hard work and tenacity of the inhabitants of Puglia, their homeland. From 1964, the reference point of the Di Pierri became Rome, where they identified their privileged place of intervention in the field of furnishing green spaces. And the success is immediate. Gardens, terraces, outdoors, are the subjects on which they operate by modifying and reinterpreting, according to then revolutionary criteria, the secular tradition of the Italian garden. Thus, they begin to create a large market that crosses the Roman and Italian borders to land on New York's Fifth Avenue and in the gardens of the wealthy and emerging Arab Emirates. All this under the label of “Pépinières du Sud” which clearly recalls the link with their land and their culture. Vivai del Sud immediately became the emblem of the new wave of the capital, the nascent school of architecture that would explode around the world as a post-modern movement, and in Italy as the Roman School. This is how the gardens become too narrow for the Di Pierri who decide to start furnishing the interiors as well. The very renowned Roman architect Paolo Portoghesi presenting their exhibition writes: “Vivai del Sud are one of the few Roman industries that have introduced new research in the furniture sector, basing their production on the re-enactment of the “Roaring Twenties” and on the creation of objects: are designers who know how to trigger the provocative mechanism of the association of ideas in our minds“. We are in the mid-70s and in addition to the “reenactment of the Roaring Twenties”, something “crazy” really also exists in the Di Pierri projects if in the midst of the economic crisis they bet everything on the unique, expensive piece and exclusive. But it's a choice that pays off (in every way). Branches are opened in various foreign countries and, above all, they also begin to design the architecture and the entire decor of a house and not only; thus are born hotels, residential centers, spas. The interests of the Di Pierri also extend beyond the field of architecture, almost as a sign of continuity with the eclecticism proposed in their productions. They will thus take care of the edition of architectural magazines and precious volumes of poetry. They also deal with social programming through their foundation and create the Italian Chamber of Commerce in West Africa. But their dominant interest, their love sometimes betrayed, but always present, is the decoration, the furniture. Paintings and furnishing objects that are born from an extensive creative and stylistic commitment, with a great dose of originality and love for detail, execution and the choice of materials and their shapes. The mystery and symbolism of Italian Baroque, a true source of inspiration for the Di Pierri and for the Roman School in general, combined with stylistic mixtures of classical origin. They become a valuable source, usable everywhere. Their unparalleled style has been defined by a professional interior design magazine as “absolute domination of large spaces and large rooms”. To give an idea of the luxury and elegance of the productions of the Vivai del Sud, it is enough to mention what kind of materials are used for the interior decoration.
