Mathieu Mategot, Nagasaki chair in black and yellow

About the Item

The Nagasaki Chair is designed in 1954 and is still Mathieu Matégot’s best-known piece. It was exhibited for the first time at the 1954 Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and, along with Arne Jacobsen’s Ant Chair (1952), is one of only a few three-legged models. The chair is made of perforated metal sheet (rigitulle) and features unique details, such as the tiny stirrup that holds the seat and the legs together. The delicately curved perforated steel seat and back creates a sense of lightness. Mathieu Matégot’s organic forms and lightness of touch in his designs create a sense of joy. The light and simplistic form, which symbolizes 1950’s design, uses light and shadow to create layers of graphic patterns and geometric shapes. The colours add this extra joyful touch. - Reedition by GUBI !
