Japanese Wabi-Sabi Meiji Period Tansu Chest of Drawers

About the Item

An unusually deep & heavy Meiji period tansu chest constructed from patinated stained elm timber with forged iron hardware. Two small hidden drawers to the top right can be removed to reveal a further two secret compartments within. Original locking front brace included, which is functional but unfortunately without its key. Japanese, c. 1870.
