Gillows Games Table, Card Table

About the Item

Mahogany Gillows Card Table, Games Table. A late-19th century mahogany fold over card or games table made by the Lancaster furniture manufacturers, Gillows. When not in use this high-quality piece of furniture serves as a console table or hall table. The shaped top folds open, supported by a single gate leg, to reveal a red baize playing surface, ideal for evening card games. The table with a single frieze drawer to the front (stamped 'Gillows, Lancaster') supported on five cabriolet legs terminating in a pad foot (one is the gate leg), the legs with carved scrolls to the knees. The top with four corner candle/drinks roundels with a further four counter wells or 'guinea wells' within the playing surface. The back of the games table is also polished, this is a sign of exceptional quality. A beautiful functional authentic piece of furniture with great patina.
