Vintage Victorian Grouse Scene Stick Pin in 18k Yellow Gold
About the Item
A beautiful Victorian Essex crystal grouse scene stick pin, set in 18k yellow gold.
This beautifully crafted stick pin is composed of a grouse woodland scene. The crystal is encased in yellow gold and secured with a pin stopper!
Essex crystal is made firstly by using a cabochon rock crystal and engraving the flat bottom with a scene or design. The engraved aspect is then hand painted to give the impression of a three dimensional object or image in the cabochon when viewed from above or on the cuff. These designs were incredibly delicate and time consuming, and as they’re all done by hand are unique in themselves! This stick pin is a perfect example of the technique!
For size reference the stick pin head measures 1.5 x 1.9 and there is a gross weight of 8.1 grams. The pin is not hallmarked but has been tested for 18k gold. It is estimated to be circa 1890-1900.
