Francis Almeida Luzzatto was born in Italy, which his family fled in 1939. The family moved to Washington during World War II after living in New Jersey. Luzzatto attended Sidwell Friends School, graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and received a master's degree in fine arts from Boston University. He also studied at the iconic Skowhegan Center for the Arts in Maine. The artist taught painting in the mid-1960s at the Corcoran School of Art and Howard University, before taking a job with the government. His paintings were exhibited at Franz Bader Gallery, and in Venice and Rome.
Mr. Luzzatto was co-author of a book for children, "City Stickers," which was a book of stickers representing tourist sites in Washington. He designed another book, "Zoo Trax," about animals that children might expect to see at the zoo.
