François Gall
French Impressionist mid century cafe scene of two women seated in a Cafe

Circa 1950

About the Item

Francois Gall, Hungarian by birth, became an impressionist painter in the pure French tradition after he moved to Paris in 1936. He was born in Kolozsvar in the former  region of  Transylvania on March 22, 1912 . He began studied all media at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Rome while working in menial jobs to secure a living. Support came in 1939 when the Hungarian government awarded Gall with a scholarship. Six years later, Francois Gall established himself in Paris and became a student of Devambez at the National Academy of Fine Arts. Francois Gall greatly admired the first generation impressionist and adopted their concepts for his own interpretations. Parisian scenes and portrayals of women engaged in typically feminine activities were among his preferred subjects. Fancois Gall is a modern impressionist, bringing to this most enduring style, his own unique personality. The artist participated in various Salon exhibitions in Paris and became a favorite with the public. In 1963, he was honored with the Francis Smith Prize. He died in 1987. This is a very rare large example of the artists work and it is believed that the two main sitters in the painting are the daughters of the painter. As a large mid-century French Impressionist scene depicting two women in an outdoor café in Paris, circa 1950, it has a unique blend of artistic mastery and cultural significance. This painting captures the essence of Parisian life during the mid-20th century, portraying the charm and sophistication of the era with its vibrant colors and lively atmosphere. The scene invites viewers to immerse themselves in the ambiance of a bustling café, evoking feelings of nostalgia and wanderlust. As a stunning centerpiece for any space, this artwork not only adds elegance and style but also serves as a captivating window into the romantic allure of Parisian culture, making it a timeless investment for art enthusiasts and admirers of French history alike. it is framed in its original frame
