About the Item

Kershaw SCHOFIELD Oil painted on board. A very good example of Schofield's work which is illustrated in the Dictionary of British Artists 1900 - 1950 by G Waters. Bold colours and confident brushstrokes really make this work stand out as a piece that it of great desirability amongst early twentieth century seascapes. Painting size: 14 x 18" (36 x 46cm) Outside frame size: 20 x 24" (51 x 61cm) Exhibited 1900-1938 He was born and bought up in Yorkshire and settled at Bradford in the same county. He was principally a landscape painter of rural scenes sometimes containing figures. Schofield usually used oil paint and this he applied in quite strong, vibrant colours - though his style was that of the traditional English school. His work has been admired widely and exhibited in the following galleries:- 1 at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham, 4 at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, 4 at the Manchester Art Gallery and 10 at the Royal Academy.
