Gaston Le Sargeant De MONNECOVE Oil on Canvas Picture Size : 18 x 24" (46 x 61cm) Outside Frame Size: 26 x 32" (66 x 81cm) A classic example of De Monnecove's work capturing French hunting art of the time . A perfect day, the dogs waiting and the hunter perusing the landscape before setting off again. French 19th century He was born on March 10th 1836 in St Omer, France. He specialised in painting landscapes and hunting scenes- these he usually did in oils. Monnecove was the pupil of J.Palizzi and went on to paint a large body of work in a style that was certainly influenced by Impressionism. During his career he exhibited a number of paintings in the Paris Salon between 1865 and 1881 and his work is held in the museum of St Omer with a piece entitled “Forest Pool-Hunting Scene”.
