Linnea Pergola
"Early [Newspaper] Edition" Original Pop Art Painting by Linnea Pergola, Framed

1988

About the Item

"Early [Newspaper] Edition," an original mixed media on canvas by Linnea Pergola, is a piece for the true collector. Pergola's style is whimsical and she is most well-known for her cityscapes, landscapes, and vivid works on silk. Many artists have copied her cityscape style, but she has been creating these works since the 1980s and was one of Martin Lawrence Galleries' longstanding published artists that graced the walls of their art galleries for decades. This painting is one of the first works she created for her partnership with Martin Lawrence Galleries – a very rare find. Pergola's versatile subject matter, material, and medium highlights her exceptional talent as an artist. This masterful work would make a great addition to an art collection and enhance most any home, perfect for those who have an affinity for contemporary art, cityscapes, landscapes, and humor. She is widely collected across the US and Europe, having held numerous exhibitions and won countless awards. Pergola's works are recognized for her signature pop style, in which she depicts well-known urban landmarks around the world and transforms them into animated scenes with electric color. Pergola's body of work is a collection of captivating and enchanting portrayals of life infused with fantasy to reveal the artist's pure and unaffected response to her subject. Pergola admires the colors and moods of Georgia O'Keefe, the strong illustrations of N.C. Wyeth, and the gentle scenes of Swedish life by Carl Larson. Pergola was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from the California State University at Northridge, she worked with the Peace Corps and traveled to the Philippines, Peru, Russia, and Scandinavia. She has taught silk painting in Peru, Puerto Rico, and also on HGTV. Pergola’s art has been featured in numerous galleries, including: The Ambassador Gallery, New York The Fine Art Museum of Long Island Martin Lawrence Gallery, Chicago Roberts Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona Art One Gallery, Los Angeles John Szoke Graphics, New York Gallerie I.D., Geneva Switzerland. From 1987 to 2012, Pergola was an artist for Martin Lawrence Galleries, John Szoke Editions, and Quality Fine Art Editions. Most recently she was represented by Galerie-F in Germany. All of these art publishers printed many serigraphs, giclées, and posters. They also executed hand-carved (all under 20") bi-planes, London busses, and NYC taxis from Bali. Pergola has one son, Vinnie Pergola, and recently moved back to the US after living abroad in France for nearly two years. In her own words, “the art world has taken me in many directions with many publishers, such as Martin Lawrence Galleries, CA and John Szoke Editions, NY. My spirit of adventure comes to life through my paintbrush. I have travelled extensively worldwide, often to remote destinations, which has helped my art come to life. I love detailed work, whether it be in graphite, watercolors or silks. I often bring out the humorous side of life. Painting cityscapes is my signature stamp and that is how I began my art career with Martin Lawrence Galleries. I love painting commissions - cityscapes to landscapes.”

I’ll make the decision right then and there to paint that particular subject during that particular moment. It’s a perfect moment. Once something has caught my eye and I’ve heard the “perfect” click, it’s like a photograph has been taken in my mind’s eye. I only have a few days of clarity with that image. • DUMBO, original 30x40 pop art New York City landscape
    By Jim Twerell
    Located in Spring Lake, NJ
Chic trendy DUMBO, the down-under-the-Manhattan-Bridge section of the Borough of Brooklyn in New York City, leads the way in the transformation of sections of Brooklyn into some of the most desireable neighborhoods in NYC. Located along the waterfront and Brooklyn Bridge Park resplendent with Jane's Carousel, it is the ideal subject matter for an equally chic and trendy pop art style landscape painting. Seemingly bent out of shape and reconfigured, DUMBO is no more than a bridge away with all of it's upscale boutiques, restaurants and cafes. The rainbow sky simply reiterates the dream come true that this neighborhood represents to so many! Raised in New York, artist Jim Twerell...
