About the Item

Series: Historical Fiction Dye Transfer All available sizes & editions for each size of this photograph: 18" x 18" Edition of 3 "Hannah Colorized is a new DYE transfer print, which I also used a brand new technique for this was shot on black and white film, then colored by hand using special paints to create a KODACHROME look. This is a process that took me years to perfect and will be immortalized in the DYE transfer printing process forever. These are the rarest color prints in existence and will each and everyone be museum pieces these masterworks are tailored only for top collectors. They are the longest-lasting highest-tone color images ever made. The Kodak company stopped making the chemicals in 1994 and these are the last remaining chemicals in the world, after my run, there will never be Dye Transfer prints again. The color process depends on superimposing three images in the subtractive colors: cyan, magenta, and yellow in the exact register facilitated using register pins mounted at the edge of a glass rolling bed, using a purpose-designed punch to make holes at the edge of the matrix films. As three matrices are required for each print, which is the same size as the print, the process is relatively expensive. Colour separation negatives together with their high contrast highlight masks that keep specular highlights clear from fogging over by exposing the contrast reducing masks through them." Tyler Shields is a photographer, film director, and writer, best known for his images of Hollywood celebrities. Known for his controversial and volatile and off-handed images, representative of his trademark edgy, and often risqué, a style that frequently draws criticism. his photographs capture much of the most over-the-top, brutal aspects of contemporary celebrity culture he has become a creative tour de force in the photography and film industries. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and now recognized as “Hollywood’s favorite photographer”, contemporary artist and filmmaker Tyler Shields’ evolution from the “bad boy of photography” with his controversial blood-stained photographic series featuring Lindsay Lohan to the more subtle color-explosive poesy of his Chromatic series, and his work featuring Francesca Eastwood (Clint’s daughter) to the fire-starting bag-sawing antics of a $100,00 Hermes Birkin Bag, to the stoic magic surrealism of Suspense, a project shot in the New Mexico desert featuring FransecaFrancesca Eastwood, Emma Roberts, and Lydia Hearst, Mr. Shield’s art captures the emergence of an artist and his medium into a more mature overture and output. Tyler Shields is an American image-maker. Daring and suggestive, Shields’ photographs push the envelope to create a thought-provoking experience for each viewer. His work contains its unique dialogue, with subjects ranging from historical figures to representations of modern materialism. Shields’ list of celebrity subjects makes his photography notably eye-catching. Tyler Shields’ work moves through the complexes and layers of the “celebrity” sphere, into an inherently tangible vision of the portrait in the 21st-century. What does it mean to be alive in the 21st century? How does it look? How will it look in the future? No stranger to controversy, he is certainly not afraid to shock his viewers in his artistic attempt to convey his answers to such questions. His photographs are iconic and are making their mark in the history of photography. With international acclaim as a photographer cemented, Shields has stretched his artistic endeavors even further to write and publish several books, including The Dirty Side of Glamour, The Smartest Man, and Provocateur. The past year has been especially impressive for Shields, as he collaborated on a limited-edition merchandise collection with Urban Outfitters, created an evocative documentary with YouTube Red, and many of his photographs have been auctioned off at Sotheby’s. Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition 1 of 25 After 30 years on West 11th Street, The Robin Rice Gallery celebrates its first ever exhibition for Robin Rice. For decades, Robin has exhibited a wide variety of photographers at the gallery but never her own work. As the show’s title denotes, “It’s About Time.” The opening reception will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd from 6pm to 8pm. The exhibit runs through March 17, 2019. While her photography spans five decades and multiple continents, Rice maintains a cohesive, candid voice that carries throughout all of her work. Observing the world around her in a cinematic way, she possesses an uncanny ability to recognize and capture moments of beauty and the spontaneity of the human spirit. By evoking a wonderstruck sensibility, Rice expresses a deep-rooted love for both people and landscapes using her distinct bohemian style. In this salon-style retrospective, Rice uses an “old school” approach and shoots with her Nikon on Tri-X film. When creating her art, she insists, “the camera has a mind of its own.” The scenes captured in her photography are unedited and thus born purely from the magic of the in-camera composition. In the invitational image, “Tree Farm, Long Lane, East Hampton, NY”, 1999, a naked woman wearing nothing but a large straw hat is captured from behind, centered between a long line of trees on either side, as she bikes down the lane. In another image, “Bubbles, Piazza Rondanini, Roma”, 1995, friends linger before a vine-covered building, extending their arms up in joyful wonder, catching bubbles descending from above. Receiving her first camera at the age of 11, she has since been an avid fine art photographer. After moving from Philadelphia to New York in 1976, Rice was immediately swept up in the electrifying, fast-paced art world of the city. In 1977, Disco...
