Kosa Bokšan
Yellow island

unknown

About the Item

Original color mixed media, unknown year. Kosa Bokšan was a Serbian painter who lived in Paris. She was painting landscapes and portraits when she finished her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, but when she moved to Paris her art became more abstract and approached to the informal. After that she had two phases – ‘The Paris School’ realism, so-called abstract naturalism and later when she was influenced by the Byzantine tradition, Bokšan transformed mythical symbols into an artistic expression. This is her expression of a Mediterranean island with its beautiful nature, probably from her earlier periods. We can perceive shapes of flowers and see green colors of cypresses and pines typical of the Mediterranean coast.
