Ruega por Ella is an original etching realized by the great Spanish artist Francisco Goya and published for the first time in 1799.
Original etching on paper.
The plate is part of the Third Edition of "Los Caprichos" that has been published in 1868 by the Calcografia Nacional of Madrid for the Real Academia. The full edition includes 80 different Etchings. Plate number 31. Titled on the lower margin "Por que fui Sensible" (Because was emotional).
Very Good Conditions. A small spot is presents on the right margin.
While she's directing the preparation of the young figure that is watching us, his pupil, the maitresse reads his eternal rosary to obtain God's fortune through the sale of someone else's body.

Francisco Goya
Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker. He is considered the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His works often contained a social message, like in his "Disasters of War" series. Immensely successful in his lifetime, Goya is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. He was also one of the great portraitists of his time.
