About the Item

The sleep of reason produces monsters - From The Allegories is a mixed colored offset print by the Sicilian artist Renato Guttuso. This print was realized on the occasion of the exhibition held in Rondanini Gallery in Rome in 1981 and reproduced the artwork that the artist realized in 1979 as reported on the lower margin. Hand signed on the lower right margin. Original title: Le Allegorie: Il sonno della ragione produce mostri Renato Guttuso (Bagheria, Palermo 1912 - Rome,1987) was a famous Italian painter of the 20thcentury. Guttuso, born in a small town in Sicily, started painting when he was only 13. In 1938, he had his first solo exhibition in Rome. He founded the artistic movement "Fronte nuovo delle Arti" in 1947. After the war, he continued painting in his most realistic style, referring to contemporary political themes. Beginning in 1950, Guttuso took part in the Venice Biennal many times and he held numerous solo shows in many museums and galleries in both Europe and America. Good conditions except for very light yellowing of paper along the margins. Our specimen could be a special present and an excellent solution to have the artwork of a great master in your house!
