He is the recipient of numerous awards from organizations including the American Academy of Arts and Letters, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts and the Tiffany Foundation. He has had over fifty one-person painting exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe. His work is in the permanent collections of more than thirty museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His work has the influence of both Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art in it, biomorphic forms in rich hues and thick textures with heightened colors and abstracted, organic forms, late American Modernism. He moved to New York in 1979, the artist rose to critical acclaim in the 1980s alongside Terry Winters, Bill Jensen, and Katherine Porter. The artist lives and works between New York, NY and his Hudson Valley residence. He was a collaborating artist illustrating Bradford Morrow, Bestiary along with Joe Andoe, James Brown, Vija Celmins, Louisa Chase, Eric Fischl, Jan Hashey, Michael Hurson, Mel Kendrick, James Nares, Ellen Phelan, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith, David Storey, Michelle Stuart, Richard Tuttle, Trevor Winkfield, Robin Winters. Ray Smith's aptitude for the surreal is apparent in this portfolio of six drypoint prints, presented in a portfolio case. Each image depicts an intriguing, fantastic landscape populated with chimeric nudes. Each one is carefully printed to appear as if doodled on lined notebook paper with ballpoint pen: Japanese letter paper chine-colle on Kizuki Hosho paper. Translated as "Letters from Japan," Cartas de Japon plays on tropes of an exotic, faraway land. Federica Galli's Biography Proudly present into Google art and Culture A prominent figure in the art of engraving in Italy, Federica Galli was born in 1932 in Soresina - a village just outside Cremona- in the north of the country. Straight after the war, in 1946, she convinced her parents to enrol her at the Artistic Lyceum in Milan. In 1950, she attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, from where she graduated four years later with a diploma in painting. She began engraving in 1954 - "Il paese dell'Alberta"- experimenting with etching, a technique she never abandoned for the rest of her life. In 1966 she married the journalist Giovanni Raimondi – editor-in-chief of the Corriere della Sera. During that time she began to embark on a densely packed programme of cultural trips that took her to the most important European cities and to countries where the art of engraving is less deeply rooted. These were also the year in which she matured the conviction that engraving was the technique in which she expressed herself most effectively and started to apply herself exclusively to this art form, producing over eight hundred different subjects. Starting from her early personal exhibitions – the first one took place in 1960 in Milan – she met with the favour of the public and critics alike.
