Then, recently added, a contemporary dark brown wood moulding Framed size: 31.63" x 41.63" Sheet size: 30.07" x 40.07" Image size: 26.25" x 38.88" Condition: A superior example in excellent condition with clean paper and strong colors Notes: Provenance: one owner ever - private collection - San Francisco, CA; part of an entire "Space Fruit: Still Lifes" portfolio acquired upon its release in 1979 from a gallery in New York, NY. Numbered by Warhol in felt-pen lower right. Comes from Warhol's 1979 "Space Fruit: Still Lifes" portfolio of six screenprints, (Feldman/Schellman No. II.198-II.203, page 107). The six works include "Cantaloupes II", "Watermelon", "Apples", Cantaloupes I", "Peaches", and "Pears". Joe Grippi chop mark/blind stamp lower left. Artist's copyright inkstamp "Andy Warhol" with "1979" inscribed in ball-point pen lower left on verso. Comes with its original Grippi/Zivian Inc. "Space Fruit: Still Lifes" booklet. This rare sixteen page publisher's catalogue about the portfolio includes 6 color illustrations and Michael Zivian's personal business card and hand-written price list. This image "Peaches" is based on a photograph by Ronnie Cutrone. Biography: Andy Warhol (born Andrew Warhola; August 6, 1928 - February 22, 1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist. The Andy Warhol Museum in his native city, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives. It is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist.
