About the Item

Artist Commentary: My freestanding sculptures have no secret fastening devices. Gravity holds them in place. They aren't magic tricks. I hope the only magic that happens is the experience of walking into and around the forms and upon close inspection, discovering that they're in a state of equilibrium. So the funny part is that as the exhibition drew to a close I had to disassemble the sculpture and discard it. It was assembled on site, otherwise it wouldn't fit through the door. I like to give away the materials rather than seeing them go to a landfill. A person responded to the Craigslist ad and showed up at the gallery with an old tiny Subaru station wagon with a roof rack. He said he'll take all of the materials. I looked at him and asked if he knew it was over 2000 lbs. He said no and failed to realize that even Ultralite MDF is extremely heavy. I think he assumed it was foam. He drove away swiftly. Weight and gravity can be a friend or foe when it comes to engineering. For me they've been reliable companions that require attention and respect.. Through his work, Lendvai melds his knowledge of carpentry, taught to him by his father at an early age, with his interest in modernist and post-modernist theory of sculpture and philosophical and scientific definitions of time and space. Lendvai’s site-responsive installations make use of fundamental geometric forms to address concepts of space and time, and to engage audiences through experiential installations that break down the boundary between the art object and the subject and question the notions art, design, and architecture. His work encourages movement and a continuous awareness of a series of nows, allowing for audiences to experience a more tactile engagement with space and self. Lendvai’s sculptures and site-responsive installations have been exhibited in Tokyo, Japan; Chicago, Illinois; Key West, Florida; and more recently in Hoboken, New Jersey; and Brooklyn, New York. He received his BA at SUNY Stony Brook and his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2002. Lendvai is of Hungarian descent and is a first generation American.

Make Me A Believer, Original Contemporary Mixed Media Geometric Abstraction 24" x 24" x 2" (HxWxD) Repurposed paper on panel Hand-signed by the artist. Artist Glenn Fischer repurposes various papers and print materials, cutting up different sections of color, and combines them into newly imagined geometric abstract compositions. The combination of the circular centerpiece and the linear nature of the cuts is reminiscent of a sunrise or sunset as it passes over a horizon line. In this case, Fischer has combined various shades of yellow, red, and green to stand against the white brick lay of the negative space...

Artist Commentary: The Joy Buddies were created from a simple question I asked myself - if joy were tangible, what would it look like? The Joy Buddies message is that we are better, together. I created them to symbolize the joy and hope I feel like I come together in unity with the people I love. Over the years, they have exhibited across the country in various sculptural and digital art forms but always keeping true to their same human-like shape and fire-painted designs.
