Erich Andres Photography
German, 1905-1992
Erich Andres was born 1905 in Germany and passed away in Hamburg 1992. He started his career as a photographer in 1920. He was one of the first photographers, who used a Leica. He was working with Leni Riefenstahl shooting the Olympic Games in 1936, war a freelance press photographer during the Spanish Civil War. After World War II he worked on reportage photography, for industrial companies and traveled and worked in the USA and Europe. In Hamburg he was known as the man with the leddars. His aim was to use them to get unusual perspectives. His images today are displayed in several museums, for example in the Civil War Museum in Salamanca, Spain, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Industrial Museum in Oberhausen, Germany. Andres was a contributor for Edward Steichens Exhibition "The family of man" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1951.(Biography provided by O'Deer Fine Art)
