Grayson Perry Art

British, b. 1960
Winner of the 2003 Turner Prize, Grayson Perry creates ceramics and other objects that explore diverse historical and contemporary themes. Drawn in by the beauty of his pieces, which are covered with sgraffito drawing, handwritten text and transferred photographs, viewers are met with darker subjects and narrative hints to environmental disaster and child abuse. Autobiographical references to the artist's childhood, family, and his transvestite alter ego Claire are intertwined with his political references, creating a challenging conflict between his dark themes and the rich beauty of his works.

Chris Whitty's Cat Limited Edition silver Pendant (Necklace)
By Grayson Perry
Located in New York, NY
Grayson Perry Chris Whitty's Cat, 2021 Solid sterling silver with oxidized finish and a 28" oxidized chain. Hallmarked and gift boxed with a hand numbered edition card 1 9/20 × 1 3/5 in 3.7 × 4.1 cm Edition of 100, with hand numbered card (the original edition was contemplated at 500, but only 100 ended up being made) Artist's incised signature; Hallmarked and gift boxed with a hand numbered edition card. Limited edition Chris Whitty's Cat pendant by Grayson Perry The pendant is an exact replica of a larger piece the artist made, and it is cast in solid sterling silver with a 28" silver chain, with an oxidised finish. Hallmarked and gift boxed with a hand numbered edition card. Chain length: 28’’ Pendant width: 39mm Weight: 64g During lockdown, Grayson Perry, one of Britain's foremost artists, brought the nation together through art, helping them to unleash their creativity as part of his Channel 4 TV series made by Swan Films. Every week Grayson Perry hosted the show from his own studio, taking the country with him as he created his own new art works. Grayson and his wife Philippa talked to other famous artists and creatives about how they were spending their time in isolation and invited them to make their own works in response to this unprecedented crisis. Each week a different theme - portraits, animals, fantasy, view from my window, home, Britain - was explored. ‘When lockdown first started back in March my wife Philippa and I went for a walk around the deserted City of London one evening. We came back through Gough Square where Samuel Johnson’s house is and a sculpture of his cat Hodge. When I saw this small life-sized memorial to a pet I was inspired. I was thinking of London and its myths, like Dick Whittington whose cat has its own statue on Highgate Hill. Chris Whitty is the Chief Medical officer for England and Chief Advisor to the government during the crisis. He has become the face of the Covid pandemic...I was looking through sculptures of cats and one that really caught my eye was an Islamic...

Bold Abstract Latin American Screenprint Scarf Textile Art Print Josep Guinovart
By Josep Guinovart Bertrán
Located in Surfside, FL
This is a thin cotton (that is my best estimate. it does not feel like silk) scarf, woven textile, fabric piece. It is signed in the print and hand numbered. Josep Guinovart (1927 –2007) was a Spanish Catalan painter most famous for his informalist or abstract expressionist work. In 1941, he began to work as a decorator. Three years later, he started his studies at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de la Llotja (Art School of La Llotja) where he stayed until 1946. He first exhibited his work in 1948 in Galerías Syla in Barcelona. In 1951, he produced his first engravings entitled 'Homage to Federico García Lorca'. Two years later, he was awarded a grant from the French Institute to study in Paris for nine months. Here he discovered the cubist works of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso and travelled to Belgium, Holland and Germany. On his return to Barcelona and after a period working as an illustrator and set designer, around 1957 he began moving towards abstract art. His work is highly unconventional and usually on a large scale, using a wide range of materials, three-dimensional objects and organic substances such as eggshell, earth and straw. He has done some amazing 3D wool tapestry wall hangings...

"MIDNIGHT BLUE", sculpture, clay, relief, abstract, contemporary, ceramic
By Harold Wortsman
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Midnight Blue, a ceramic relief sculpture of high-fired porcelain pigmented with oxides, paint and epoxy, is a recent work by New York artist Harold Wortsman. This sculpture is ready to be mounted to the wall. Note the artist's hand in the mark-making – cuts and radiating lines, the suggestion of maps, geometry and counting systems – it is characteristic of Wortsman's practice. Warm, contemporary, uniquely crafted, yet speaks to ancient, tribal traditions of art-making that cross cultures and histories. Highly attuned to the art of Africa, the Middle East, India and Asia, his forms are organic abstracts with masculine and feminine attributes that resonate together as a pleasing enigma. They make sense immediately, yet never give up all their secrets. Midnight Blue was recently exhibited at Harold Wortsman: Time and Space, Orange Art Foundation, New York City, February 2022. From Harold Wortsman – "With sculpture, my material of choice is high-fired clay. Pieces are first low-fired in an electric kiln. I do not use glazes. Instead, I use oxides applied to the bisqued (low-fired) clay. As with a tattoo, oxides permit the surface underneath to breathe—like naked skin. The work is then high-fired in a gas kiln with double reduction to cone 10. The final temperature is 2,300 degrees F. At a certain point, oxygen intake is reduced to the kiln. Because the fire has reached a critical mass, it needs oxygen and chemically takes it from the clay and the oxides painted on. Like a jazz improvisation, each kiln load comes out slightly different." From Jonathan Goodman – "Wortsman has increasingly moved into his own – a place in which the relations between the abstractions of volume and the intimations of very old culture are merged in a way that is new." – Essay, "Harold Wortsman: Time and Space", Orange Art Foundation, February 2022, New York City. Harold Wortsman is a sculptor and printmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. He “creates forms that bring to mind archaic cult objects and exude a quiet concentrated strength.” (Argauer Zeitung, Switzerland). His work, an edgy mix of freedom and clarity, can be found in public and private collections in the US, including The Library of Congress, Yale University, The New York Public Library Print Collection, The New York Historical Society, Smith College, Indiana University’s Lilly Library, Brandeis University, The Newark Public Library Special Collections Division, and the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum Print Archive. Also in private and public collections in Europe, including the Municipal Collection of the City of Brugg, Switzerland. Harold studied at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, with sculptor George Spaventa...
