Katherine Filice Art

b. 1963

Katherine Filice allows you to pull out of her works what you see and does not layer any expectations on her viewers. Filice's works are all deeply personal works, ones she pours hundreds of hours into. She is an internationally awarded and collected artist, participating in art fairs in Hong Kong, Belgium, New York and LA. Her most recent fair was “ArtCan,” where she exhibited a six-foot tall layered work, whose studies on for sale. Filice is best known for her unique approach to meditative line making. Using primarily a fine-point Rapidograph technical pen, she explores the human experience with a provocative and unexpected dialogue. Filice pushes the technical possibilities of a simple curved line while asking us to think more deeply and share more openly as she exposes not only the creative zeitgeist of her inner world but our collective spiritual awakening. Filice's background features traditional fine art education in conjunction with a long career as a creative director, graphic artist and designer. She has received over 100 national and international awards, personally and with her team, for commercial work in design, painting, writing and photography. Additionally, Filice holds a BS degree in organizational leadership from the University of San Francisco and is an Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society lifetime member. Her education and work experience have driven much of her exploration of human relationships. After decades of quietly creating, Filice's contemporary art career exploded when she was selected to exhibit at the prestigious ArtRooms London exhibition in 2018. Shortly thereafter, her highly provocative series “The Secrets We Keep” was featured in a two-month solo exhibit at the Gilroy Center for the Arts. Filice also participated as an invited exhibitor in the “Asia Contemporary Art Show” in Hong Kong in October 2018, with her work Birth featured as one of the top ten outstanding artworks. In early 2019, Filice’s works Birth and I Remember were selected as finalists for the 2019 International Artist Grand Prize Art Revolution show in Taipei, juried from over 4,200 submissions. She was also awarded the 2019 Startup SF Best Artist 3rd Place Award and received an Apero Curator Review Award for I Remember.

Songs of Prisoners - Paint by Parimah Avani - 2023
Located in Roma, IT
Songs of Prisoners is a drawing realized by Iranian Painter and Poet Parimah Avani in 2023. Sumi, Persian ink, and acrylic on kraft paper. Hand-signed and dated. Excellent conditions. From the series "Resistance and Alchemical Metals" The artwork is expressively poetic, with an exclusive title that refers to the socio-political context, and the application of limited color of metals" various copper, gold, silver, bronze" have metaphorical features of alchemy. In this series artist took positions, and gestures of revolutionary and rebellious bodies on the battlefield of revolution and transformed them dynamically into precious sources of resistance by spiritual transitions of colors akin to alchemy, meat, and blood found their symbolic meaning through colors and expressive brushstrkes, metals here refer to bodies of freedom seekers, shapable, flexible, shiny and a source of strength, that highlights how a body becomes a battlefield, a golden source of sacrifice, a silver font of resistance, copper as blood and women fighting for freedom.  Her works in this series challenge oppression, torture, censorship, and gender-related issues themes by applying oriental brushstrokes of calligraphy in ink as a primary tool, to fragile subjects. She portrays her Eastern identity through materials and techniques as a fundament, adding layers of today's socio-political concerns. In her Exhibition "Heroine's Journey" presented in the Sparkasse Plettenberg, Germany in 2023, she with the same approach successfully presented revolutionary and rebellious gestures by applying the same metaphorical limited colors of alchemical metals. What makes this series unique: it is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each gestural figure, represented in a minimalistic manner, and the vigorous and unbridled energy of brushstrokes, as raw, spontaneous, and emotionally charged.  Parimah Avani, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran, is a multidisciplinary artist and a recognized figure in contemporary hermetic Persian literature and the avant-garde "Other" movement. Her book, "Magic Verses of Antalus," was a finalist for the prestigious "Shamlou" Award. Her most recent achievement is winning an art competition for a scholarship from Werkstatt Plettenberg in Germany, culminating in a solo exhibition held at the Gallery of the German Bank...

Untitled - After Cadmus - Nude Males Embracing, Original Graphite Drawing
By Rick Sindt
Located in Chicago, IL
This untitled work by Rick Sindt was inspired by the works of Paul Cadmus. It is a small graphite drawing of two male nude figures with both of their faces somewhat obscured during an intimate moment. The graph lines often used by artist are still visible to distinguish between the photographic elements of a Polaroid photo and this actual drawing. The piece is framed in a white float frame measuring 12.5h x 10.5w inches. Rick Sindt Untitled - After Cadmus graphite on panel 10h x 8w in 25.40h x 20.32w cm Shifting the historic male gaze into a male-on-male gaze, this body of work anchors its exploration of queer culture in relationships and introspection. Beginning with a survey of several photo archives, I overwhelmingly encountered pictures that fit into two distinct categories: spectacular demonstrations or public displays of sexuality. All of these images were overtly political. Then, I began to find a subset of more intimate images. Typically, these were images submitted by loved ones or donated to foundations after someone’s death. These images depicted common, tender scenes. Working my way through these images, I reflected on D. A. Miller’s assertion that gay identity, to which we have entrusted our politics and ethics, stands in an essentially reductive relation to the queer desires on which it is based. And David Halperin’s argument that, “identity has become the preferred category for thinking about homosexuality. Moreover, it has been promoted at the direct expense of pleasure or feelings or subjectivity.” This left me asking the questions: how is queer culture transmitted if not genealogically? Is there a universal queer experience? What is queer sensibility and subjectivity and can it be visually represented? In the body of work submitted here, black and white graphite drawings maintain a Polaroid scale referencing the found historical photographs on which they are based, oil paintings provide isolated moments of feeling as they investigate questions about queer dispositions in a contemporary setting, and a few key sketches provide insight into how a few individual inquiries began. The Body is a History - Muscular Male Nude, Graphite Drawing on Paper
By Rick Sindt
Located in Chicago, IL
Rick Sindt's knowledge of the male physique is evident in this exquisite drawing of a nude male. The subject sits on the ground with his body twisted away from the viewer. We see the defined musculature of his posterior. The artwork is framed in white wood with a black mat. Rick Sindt The Body is a History graphite on archival paper 12h x 9w in 30.48h x 22.86w cm RIS026 Shifting the historic male gaze into a male-on-male gaze, this body of work anchors its exploration of queer culture in relationships and introspection.
