Maki Kuchida Art
Japanese, b. 1979
Maki Kuchida was born in Shizuoka, Japan in 1979. Passionate in painting she devoted her time to study at the Tokyo Zoukei University majoring in Oil Painting and graduated with her first fine arts degree. That did not end her pursuit for perfection in her art career, she went to Beijing to further her studies and in 2007 she obtained her MFA degree from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing with major in Chinese painting. She likes to use the traditional delicate Chinese brush technique, which is also prevalent in Japan, to paint her works on silk or Japanese rice paper.
Maki is inspired to paint landscapes and figures, she combines the Chinese and Japanese style painting on silk and rice paper with using mixed media materials like mineral pigments, color inks, and gold leaves. In one of her debut series “Premonition Dream,” she painted herself as that protagonist little girl wandering inside her dream and facing various dreamy landscapes and adventures.
When she paints she puts focuses on the greatest details to perfect her works: almost hyperreal protagonists in a dreamlike and surreal fantasy world. Her works arouse and awake the inner world of viewers and remind them of their childhood, long-forgotten dreams and the imaginary fantasy land inside.(Biography provided by Eye Contemporary Art Gallery)

About an Artist:
Irena Orlov is a Los Angeles-based contemporary multidisciplinary visual artist whose work uses a combination of both traditional and new media. In a blending of traditional and new media, Irena Orlov developed special techniques which continue to give her art a unique look and aesthetic. While the majority of her works are done with mixed media, she also creates with acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolors and pencil.
Much of her art has been implemented in renowned hotels, wellness and corporate settings across the world.

Morning Mist is a 2020 work of Maki Kuchida. It is a signature landscape work by Maki combining Japanese and Chinese landscape painting style. She used mixed media technique with aluminum leaf applied to give that tranquil feel of early morning, and she painted on the rice paper with acrylic before the silk painting is laminated on it so as to create a morning mist perspective. One can see a few swirls which render a lively flow to the river.
At first glance Morning Mist is the depiction of natural scenery of the mountain, trees and the river. Maki’s landscape painting subtly contains a spiritual element – the serenity of life, as reflected from the quiet and peaceful mood she created with colors and the composition. She is influenced by the traditional Chinese landscape painting style where the recognition of a literati spiritual element in landscape art is present. Morning Mist is not just a quiet and calm landscape painting as it appears, the motif is simple and yet laden with associations, the deep meaning is to inspire us to pursue the ultimate goals in life – happiness and peace of mind.
