Shiro Ikegawa Art
Japanese, 1933-2009
Shiro Ikegawa was not only known for his three-dimensional prints, but he was also an accomplished painter. He revolutionized printmaking with the development of heavily embossed etchings. Ikegawa was born in Tokyo in 1933 and studied art in Japan before moving to Los Angeles in 1956. He earned his MA from the Otis College of Art and Design in 1961, where he later taught printmaking. Ikegawa also shared a studio with fellow artists, Leonard Edmondson and Ynez Johnston. His work has been featured in dozens of exhibitions including, the Whitney Museum in New York, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art and many more.
