Antique Japanese Karamono-style Tea Cabinet

About the Item

Antique Japanese Karamono-style Tea Cabinet. A simple chest made for the type of Chinese style tea ceremony of Sencha that was popular during the Meiji era. The cabinet is composed of a dark stained hardwood with burl top, two matchbook grain doors, interior shelf, one open display shelf, short legs, beaded details on the frame and recessed wood panels all crafted in traditional Chinese mortise and tenon joinery with floating panels. The hardware is simple brass knobs with flower blossom escutcheons, nonfunctioning lock, interior hinges and door pin. Condition: New shellac finish, some old circular stains on the top surface, normal wear from use, otherwise fine condition. Measuring: 26.5 in. high x 17.5 in. wide x 10 in. deep (67.3 x 44.5 x 25.5cm) Weight: 10 lbs. 4 oz. (4625 g.) Meiji Period, 1867 - 1911
