Ormolu and Sevres Porcelain Antique French Clock by Achille Brocot

About the Item

A stunning original antique French clock by the renown maker Achille Brocot. It features exquisite Sèvres Style porcelain with pompadour rose pink ground. Beautifully modelled in the classical style of Louis XVI with scrolling brackets, acanthus wreath and draped floral swags. The dial and lower panel are delicately painted with cherubs. The large urn to the top is finely painted to both sides with exotic birds. The dial is complete with it's original finely cut and blued steel hands. Please note that this style of clock does not have a glass bezel or a rear door to the case. The clock is complete with its original gesso base. The French movement is by Achille Brocot and is of superb quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. It is fitted with a dead-beat escapement and rack striking. Pendulum is and old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock, please ask and we will send you a link. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with slight wear to the high spots in places. The porcelain is also excellent with no damage and only very minor wear to the over-glaze gilt decoration. We have replaced the fabric on the gesso base with fresh. Achille Brocot was a member of the renowned Brocot clockmaking family, the eldest son of Louis Gabriel Brocot. He was treasurer to La Société des Horlogers in Paris and was awarded First Class Medal at the 1855 Paris Exhibition - Tardy, Dictionnaire des Horlogers. Achille Brocot mark on the dial plate and bezel. Achille Brocot mark on the movement backplate. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.     This is a lovely antique French ormolu, gilt bronze, mantel clock with Bleu Celeste Sevres porcelain panels, by the renowned maker, Raingo Freres, Paris, circa 1850 in date. The clock features a beautifully cast pair of ormolu cherubs surmounted with game, to include fish, boar and pheasant, above a circular enamel dial with Arabic and Roman numerals. The dial is flanked by porcelain panels with gilt highlights, depicting playful cherubs. The clock has an 8 day striking movement and is complete with pendulum, bell and key. This incredible clock is a must have for any collector of ornamental and decorative pieces.
