A mid-century freestanding butcher's block. Perfect as a kitchen island. Ready for everyday use. Made of solid stained beech and elm wood. Straight-lined frame on 4 industrial castors with a rectangular base, consisting of square timbers connected by a bar and frame. The heavy, solid 22 cm (8.66 inch) thick worktop lies on top. Dimensions Height: 94 cm / 37 inch. WIdth: 125.5 cm / 49.4 inch. Depth: 53.5 cm / 21.06 inch. Height of the frame without top: 71.5 cm / 28.14 inch. Since the Middle Ages, the profession of butcher has been one of the most respected and lucrative occupations. This was often reflected in their high-quality furniture. Even back then, the first butcher's blocks were made with a top consisting of many individual squared pieces of hardwood set on edge in a frame to ensure a work surface that was as robust as possible. The principle remains the same to this day. This freestanding model from the middle of the 20th century still bears witness to the quality of these rare pieces.
