Delft Polychrome Dish with a Village View the Netherlands, 1675-1725
About the Item
Polychrome dish with a village view The Netherlands, 1675-1725.
The dish has a spreading, slightly raised flange and is painted in blue, purple and yellow with a simplified village view in a double circle. A ornamental decor of arched segments and ox head motifs is applied on the flange. Three stilt marks, which are characteristic for majolica, are visible in the centre.
Dimensions: diameter 29,8 cm / 11.73 in.
A blue and white dish with almost the same decor is in the collection of the Historic Deerfield in Delaware, in the United States (1991-155f). The border decoration is different. The trees on both dishes are sponged and not painted. Details in the execution of the painting make it clear that they were executed by the same pottery painter. The blue and white dish is wrongly attributed to England.
Condition: In very good condition, especially considering its age of over 300 years. There are the usual edge chips and some light scratches on the glaze, clearly visible in the photos.
