Copeland Spode 6 Piece Wash Set Decorated with Hand Coloured King Chintz Pattern

About the Item

This Copeland Spode 6 piece toilet set is decorated with the hand coloured "King" pattern which was issued in 1892. The printed background is of densely packed small white leaves against a green ground, with the larger leaves, branches, flowers and butterflies coloured by hand. The set comprises a wash jug and basin, a soap dish, a toothbrush holder, a flannel or face washer holder and a lidded bucket with a wicker carrying handle, for the waste water. The wash jug or pitcher has a diameter of 7.5 inches and stands 10.75 inches high, the bowl or basin a diameter of 16.5 inches with a height of 4.75 inches, and the waste container's diameter is 11 inches, with a height of 11 inches. The soap dish and the flannel holder both have pierced lids to allow the water to drain into the dish below. The soap dish has a small chip-8 mm x 4 mm (5/16ths x 1/8ths of an inch) to the pierced cover and it has lost its lid. There is a smallish chip to the base of the toothbrush holder, and a crack to the base of the jug handle. All in all though, it is a very decorative set. The base of the flannel dish shows the impressed mark for October 1925.
