Harvey Probber 12-Person Extendable Dining Table in Mahogany and Brass, 1950s

About the Item

This grand 1950s Mid-Century Modern classic design by Harvey Probber is an extendable dining table in Mahogany and brass and was newly restored in a French Polish lacquer. This minimalist design was a huge hit in the 1950s in upscale Mid-Century homes and now is a classic sought-after design by collectors and interior designers alike. This grand-scale dining table extends with two leaves up to 112" and can seat 12 people comfortably. The table top features Mahogany throughout the center area and the edge is banded in ribbon Mahogany for an exotic look. The base features dark Mahogany with six legs capped with brass sabots and accented with brass cross stretchers. This Harvey Probber extendable dining table would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Post-Modern, Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: H 29" x W 80" x D 44" *Two 16" leaves with one leaf: 96" with both leaves: 112" CONDITION: Excellent refinished condition, ready for immediate use. Top was finished in a French Polish. A few small veneer repairs underneath the French Polish. Brass has attractive natural patina, we intentionally left the light patina as it is desirable and attractive, but it can be polished to a bright and shiny tone.

  • Monumental Custom Granite and Steel Dining Table by Anthony Lumsden, 1970s
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
A jaw dropping monumental granite slab and steel dining table by famed Los Angeles architect Anthony Lumsden - custom designed and crafted for his Los Angeles home in the 1970s. Sleek, modern yet a subtle statement piece, partially due to its large size for such heavy materials, but also for its vibrant deep granite veining which reflects light in a shimmering fashion. The thick and large granite slab is heavy with no-doubt, the large chromed steel frame is also very heavy in its own regard - a sign of the quality materials he used. To re-create this staggering piece today would be costly and painfully difficult. Acquiring this dining table, which would also make an incredible conference table as well, is a great opportunity for a collector or architecture aficionado to own something truly unique and special - and something that will stand the test of time. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Anthony Lumsden was a famed American architect most noted for his sculptural futuristic designs with numerous projects in Southern California such as the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant, often seen in Hollywood films and television shows such as Star Trek Next Generation...
