Antique Victorian Etruscan Revival 14K Gold Angel Skin Coral Necklace
About the Item
Offered is a lovely Victorian period angel skin coral necklace done in an Etruscan revival style. It features beautiful detail work; the pendant is original to the chain, which is always extra nice.
I find no hallmarks but have tested the gold to be 14K with a high karat bloomed finish, while the barrel clasp tests as 10K gold. Set to the center of a double twisted wire gold bezel is a round angel skin cabochon of approximately 10 mm in diameter. Its coloring is a variegated light coral and very pale almost cream-colored coral. (please note your screen may display colors differently than mine does) It remains in very nice condition both to the naked eye, as well as under magnification. Scrolling wirework and beading decorate the setting, giving a finished width of approximately 19.8 mm.
Suspended beneath the main cabochon's setting is a tear drop shaped piece of angel skin coral with a decorative gold cap (with cap the drop measures approximately 15 x 7 mm). The coloring is a little more uniform with less of the palest coral color seen in the round cabochon. It shows one spot at the bottom that has either slight wear or a natural imperfection and is otherwise in very good condition. One small condition issue to note is that the little loop attached to the coral drop's cap is not soldered shut. It almost looks like it might have been snipped, though it could be lasered, if desired.
Even the decorative bail is original, with matching twisted wire work and gold beading. Including the bail and drop, the total length of the pendant is approximately 1 13/16 of an inch or 46.5 mm.
The antique twisted rope style chain measures a little over 18.5 inches and closes with a barrel clasp. (the clasp no longer has a high karat bloomed surface, but it blends in rather well) The link style complements the gold work of the pendant particularly well. Together the finished weight of this elegant necklace is 7.11 grams.
