Cat Kitten Bronze Letter Holder Austrian Vienna Bronze Long Live Katzenjammer

About the Item

This is a superb antique Austrian Vienna Bronze (Bronze de Vienne, Wiener Bronze, Cold Painted Bronze) Letter Holder. The bronze plaque on the front depicts a trio of kittens eating and drinking surrounded by grape vines and bottles. The insignia on top says Vivat Sequens and Katzenjammer is shown along the bottom. The translation is "Long Live" the cats. Fantastic! The bronze work is gorgeous. The cat in the middle appears to have eaten or drunk too much! The letter holder dates to circa 1880-1920. This is one of the most delightful cat motif Vienna Bronzes we have seen. The letter holder is 9 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide.

  • 'The Four Seasons' Figures in Gilt Silver & Malachite
    Located in Brisbane City, QLD
This charming set of 'The Four Seasons' dates to the late 1960s and was manufactured in Milan, Italy. The set which retain their original fitted box comprise of a small square plinth encased with slices of malachite atop of which sit a figure, each representing one of the four 'seasons'. The figures along with a gilt foot-rim are crafted from 800 purity silver (800 out of 1000 parts pure silver) and are parcel gilt in areas and purposefully oxidised in others. The figures to the underside are stamped for their metal purity, along with an Italian hallmark allowing us to know they were crafted in Italy by a maker called 'Luigi Cervone'. This particular mark for Cervone was only used from 1968 up until his retirement in 1970, allowing us to date the set to between 1968 and 1970. The four are in exceptionally good condition, retain their box and appear to have been virtually never displayed. The quality of the malachite slices...

  • Old Signed Carved Nephrite Jade German / Russian Hippopotamus Figure
    Located in Philadelphia, PA
A very fine carved Nephrite Jade hippopotamus figurine. Likely the work of the German lapidary carvers in Idar Oberstein (or possibly Russian in origin). The feet of the hippo have numbered inscription or signature. Simply a great carving! Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. There are a few round concussion marks here and there, loss to one ear, a small fracture in one nostril (likely from the carving), some edge wear, and some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age Maker: Possibly from Idar Oberstein (or one of the Russian houses...
