Set of Four Bent Phenolic Child's Chairs USA1940's I usually stay far away from children's furniture, however the design details and materials on these are so unique (plus, I've never seen them before), I had to make an exception to my own rules. Seats are made of bent phenolic on a galvanized steel base. Phenolic is a pre-fiberglass dead branch on the plastic's family tree, in which canvas was submersed in resin and was made obsolete when fiberglass came along. These chairs have an Eames-like, wartime experimental feel to them, with very cool solutions to connections (especially the seat-back shock absorber detail). My best guess, made, right before, during, or immediately after WWII. Offered as a set.
