Royal Flying Corps Polished Walnut Biplane Fighter Propeller
About the Item
This propeller was designed to power a Royal Flying Corps D.H.5 Biplane Fighter, which was first introduced in late 1916 and was powered by a French-made engine such as the 110 HP Le Rhone.
Many, possibly the majority, of Tibbenhams propellers were made to designs of the Royal Aircraft Factory, although some were made for others. Frederick Tibbenham Ltd. of Turret Lane and Portland Road in Ipswich, made wings and other parts for airplanes, possibly as sub-contractors for Ransomes, but are best known for making propellers.
An extremely fine and rare example, retaining all of its original markings including the colorful Tibbenham badge in the form of a Wasp.
