Scott Troxel
American Contemporary Sculpture by Scott Troxel - Convergence Gold

2019

About the Item

Artwork made with Mahogany on MDF painted with metallic gold gloss automotive enamel The inspiration for this piece in terms of design and color came from the mid century modern movement. The artist loves to combine the warmth of organic wood tones with clean modern colors and lines. In this case, the gold metallic and white tones suggest a 1950's color palette when combined with rich warm mahogany. The design harkens back to the sputnik style lighting, wall sculpture and mirrors that were popular during this time. Scott loves to use these pieces for inspiration because they managed to look both organic and futuristic at the same time. The force of the Mahogany jutting in towards the center implies inward energy, while the pinlines and shiny metallic areas are a nod to one of my biggest inspirations, Frank Stella. The name comes from the design where all the lines of force converge on the center point. To him the piece can be a metaphor for the business of our lives sometimes. Life can feel like everyone and everything are squeezing us and the pressure is constantly building up.

  • Untitled Triptych
    By Eric Johnson
    Located in Santa Monica, CA
Eric Johnson creates enigmatic and sensual abstract sculptures that are constructed with pigment, wood and resin. Johnson’s work seamlessly unites two traditions of Southern California art - the sleek and sexy aesthetic of the Finish Fetish movement and the organic and elegant tradition of woodworking. His handcrafted pieces are sheathed in resin skins, which often reveal glimpses of the wooden architectures encased within. Endlessly fascinated by physics and science, Johnson’s references range from cosmology and astrophysics to the human form. Johnson’s work is deeply personal - in addition to drawing inspiration from his ancestral boat-building heritage (which is Norwegian, Scottish and Cree Native...
