Second state of three, dated 1633, numbered on plate -lower right on margin. Il is the 18th and last etching from the Callot’s series “Les Grandes Misères et Malheurs de la Guerre”, showing the brutality of soldiers towards citizens, and especially farmers. This is the key-artwork to understand the whole series: the prince distributes the rewards only to general and noble people. Including passepartout : 40 x 60 cm Jacques Callot (Nancy, 1592 – 1635) is one of the most original engraver of the French 600, remembered because of his meticulous and little figuration. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
