Adolphe Lalyre Art
French, 1850-1935
Adolphe LA LYRE: born in Rouvres in the Meuse in 1850, died in Paris in 1935. French school. He was a student of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he was first awarded in 1875. He started at the Salon de Paris in 1876 and was a member of the French Artists in 1880. He won two medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900.
At first, he exhibited paintings like “Sainte Cecile” (now at the museum of Chartres, Saint Genevieve and Saint Clotilde in Montauban) at the Salon des Compositions Religieuses, inspired from his learning at Puvis de Chavannes’ studio. He later received the teaching of HENNER, which helped him to clarify his feminine ideal. Then he became the painter of the “femme fatale”: sensual red-haired beauty, fashionable at the time.
Main museums: Chartres, Montauban.(Biography provided by Galerie de Souzy)

"Sam" is a secondary market work with one previous owner.
Artist Biography:
Derek Harrison has worked as an artist almost all of his life. It all began with experimental art in various mediums. These ranged from watercolor to spray paint, tattooing, illustration and eventually to oil painting. A full spectrum of mediums experimented with as an artist beginning to learn his craft.
In early 2010 Derek began taking workshops with very accomplished painters. This exposure opened his eyes and mind to what the possibilities are in the fine art world. After a very short amount of time, Derek began to take an extreme interest in classical/traditional art. This interest would lead him to study at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art. After formal training, many classes and workshops outside of the school and a very important session of weekly classes with artist Jeremy Lipking, Derek Harrison has become one of the most exciting new talents in the field of representational painting. He has shown in galleries all over California and as distant as Amsterdam. His paintings sit in many collections across the country including musician Richie Sambora...

“By his own account, the most ambitious work of Michallon’s career was a thirty-foot canvas depicting Noah’s Ark, which he exhibited in the Salon of 1875, where it went unmentioned by the critics. Preparatory work for this elaborate composition took him frequently to the Jardin des Plantes, where he made painstaking drawings and oil sketches of the animals on view. These studies were enthusiastically remarked upon by visitors to his studio, some of whom counseled him to give up history painting altogether and pursue the less dignified but presumably more lucrative career of animal painter. Following this advice, and profiting from the tremendous vogue in 1880s Europe for all things African...
