We have not examined out of frame. Patrick LoCicero was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1959. He attended Youngstown State University, Ohio, and the Columbus College of Art and Design. He completed a B.F.A. at Ohio State University in 1982 and an M.F.A. at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1986. His paintings, installations, prints, and multimedia work have been shown in California, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. LoCicero's richly layered imagery is characterized by unusual juxtapositions of everyday objects and classical motifs, which play with the viewer's perception of materials and subjects. LoCicero’s assemblage paintings combine collage with painting. An original mineral painting, made with 3 layers of 24k gold leaves, natural and synthetic minerals, and sea shells (calcium carbonate) on Japanese washi paper mounted on a wood panel. Natural colors include gemstones or precious and semi-precious stones such as azurite (deep ocean blue). Because these substances consist of unique chemical and physical properties, every artwork has unique characteristics and a story to tell, with a sense of connection to the earth. It is highly textured with a matt and rich sand-like appearance. I wanted to let the materials speak as much as the story. Not necessarily in a loud manner, but to communicate the value of authenticity and how they play together as one big piece of jewelry. Beneath all the complex minerals, there are 3 layers of 24k gold leaves covering the entire 80 cm surface. When light passes through various dimensions, hints of gold reveal its presence and brighten the surrounding dark colors in an incredibly mesmeric way.
