He was the father Paul Jones (fl. 1856 – 1888) and Charles Jones who both became well-known landscape and animal painters. He made his debut at the Royal Academy in 1820 with a portrait of a mare and continued to exhibit there frequently. He also exhibited at other London galleries including the British Institution and Suffolk Street between 1824-1845.
