An exceptional large Oscillating clock by A Janvier
Located in HAARLEM, NL
The elaborately carved walnut case stands 155cm from the octagonal base and is topped by a foliage wreath. The imposing size and great quality make this an exceptional clock. The fine woodcarvings are unusually to be seen on both sides of the case, suggesting that this clock was intended as the centrepiece of a room, or to be placed in front of a mirror. The movement hangs on a compensated grid pendulum, mounted to a gilded drum with gilded bezels on the front and rear and functions as the pendulum. The oscillating count wheel striking movement with central sweep seconds knife edge suspension and pin-wheel escapement. The enamel dial with Roman numerals and Arabic numbers for quarters, half hour and hour, signed Janvier a Paris...

An Important Louis XV gilt bronze bracket clock with musicians
Located in PARIS, FR
An impressive large cartel clock adorned with musicians
Gilt bronze
Period Louis XV, circa 1760
Mecanism by J. B. Regnauld (1733-1809) clockmaker at Châlons sur Marne
Gilt bronze attributed to Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain (1719-1791)
Excellent original condition
Dimensions : h. 47.24 in, w. 22.84 in.
Provenance : collection Eduard Palmer (chief executive of Imperial and Royal Austrian Länderbank), Vienna, Austria.
His estate sold at Dorotheum auction, Vienna, December 1 to 6, year 1915.
This exceptional cartel clock we are offering here is one of the most representative works of Rocaille art during the reign Louis XV.
The case is entirely executed in gilt bronze, very finely chiselled and depicts at its top a pastoral scene with a duo of musicians. A standing flute player, accompanied by a singer sitting on a rock holding a sheet music book. The couple are accompanied by a dog sitting quietly next to it and scratching its ear.
The whole is embellished with flowery and foliage branches, volutes and large scrolls of acanthus, enclosing reserves lined with crimson velvet fabrics with pierced brass plates with stylized foliage and scrolls.
This bucolic scene draws its inspiration from the paintings by Nicolas Lancret and Antoine Watteau.
The circular white enamelled dial is signed “Regnauld à Chaalons”, indicates the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals by two pierced and gilded brass hands; the movement plate on the back is also signed.
It strikes the hours, the half-hours, as well as the quarters, which was quite rare.
Our cartel can be compared to an almost identical model whose movement is signed Pierre Le Roy...

A Very Large Rare Meissen Porcelain 3 Piece Clock & Candelabra Garniture Set
Located in New York, NY
A Very Large and Rare German Ormolu Mounted Meissen Porcelain Three Piece Clock & Candelabra Garniture Set. This impressive set consists of three pieces: a center clock and two candelabras, each adorned with the most intricate and delicate details that have been executed to perfection. Each three armed candelabra is remarkably elaborate with foliate arms that are embellished with gilt-covered beautifully twisted branches and curling leaves on an ornate botanically-inspired base. Embraced by the arms of the candelabras are two 18th Century Meissen Porcelain figures of musical lovers, dressed in brightly detailed traditional clothes.
The round clock face, with roman numerals, a white base, and ornate hands is surrounded by a flourish of gorgeous gilt foliage, exuding an air of elegance and refinement. Perched atop the clock is a stunning Meissen Porcelain figurine of a beautiful woman posed in mid-movement, her dress aflutter, and baring her leg as she gazes up at her left hand which is holding a bunch of grapes, while also grasping a wine goblet in her lowered right hand, representing the festivities of the moment. Surrounding the clock and extending down both sides the gilt foliate leads the eye to two cherubs each admiring tiny vases of exquisitely detailed flowers. Below the cherubs, on either side, are four white ceramic pillars...

In 1699, he moved to Paris further training. He became maitre horloger in 1713 and later juré of his guild. Further appointments followed, including the Directorship of the Société des Arts, but the pinnacle of his achievement was being appointed clockmaker (Horloger Ordinaire du Roi) toking Louis XV in 1739.
