About the Item
Crouched Lioness and Rabbits is the title of a beautiful double-sided charcoal original drawing on green colored paper, realized in 1971 by the German artist Wilhelm Lorenz, also known as Willi Lorenz. Signed and dated in pencil on the lower right margin of the recto.
This is a preparatory study, a double-sided sheet: on the recto, there is a drawing of a crouched lioness at rest with penetrating eyes, realized with incredible freshness of lines and great attention to the anatomy of the feline; on the verso, there are six studies of rabbits in different poses.
This modern artwork is in good conditions, except for a usual yellowing of the paper on the lower margin and a central rip of the paper on the lower margin.
Wilhelm (Willi) Lorenz (Germany, 1901–1981)
Wilhelm Lorenz, also known as Willi Lorenz, was a German painter specialized in paintings of animals typically hunted as a game. His highly detailed oil paintings evoke the texture and movement of animals like boars, foxes, buffalos, and lions, depicted in their natural habitats and attitudes. His artworks resemble the works by Max Josef Hänger Lorenz. Willi Lorenz attended the Düsseldorf Academy of Art before moving to Cologne to start his artistic career.
This artwork is shipped from Italy.
