About the Item
Post-impressionist gouache on paper by French artist Andrée Ruy Petroff, signed bottom left.
A totally charming painting of a young boy sitting on a bench feeding the birds. The colour palette of golds and greens and blues is restful and rich. The brushstrokes are quick and confident. Areas of the painting like the face and hands have been left to the viewer's imagination adding to the relaxed feeling this painting gives.
Andrée RUY PETROFF was much influenced by the paintings of her father, André Petroff. She worked and lived in the South of France in Cagnes Sur Mer. She exhibited extensively on the French Riviera and in Japan in Passau. She was commissioned to decorate with paintings the Church of the Holy Family in Cagnes. Ruy Petroff also taught at the cultural center in Cagnes to share her passion for painting to the next generation as she had been inspired by her father.
Ruy Petroff also edited and published books on the work of her father.
