About the Item
Oil on Canvas by Ernest Walbourn (1872 - 1927) who along with his wife Eva, was a 19th Century genre painter. It is said that his wife often did the backgrounds and he painted the figures. Certainly she is more known for her florals pictures and he for his figurative and bucolic scenes of women and children in a rural setting.
Walbourn exhibited at the Royal Academy and all the major venues of the day, a major retrospective of his work in 1987 ensured the popularity of this artist.

Ernest Walbourn
Ernest Walbourn was a Victorian landscape painter, specializing in cottage and farm scenes. His paintings were mostly set around Essex, England. He exhibited his works at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. His wife, Eva, was a proficient landscape painter and features in many of his paintings. His works can be found at the Bolton Art Gallery, the Kirklees Museum and Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry.
